You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero (Book Review)

Hey Lovelies,

I feel as though these last few months have been my slowest reading months ever but I am so grateful to share a new book review.

This month I read, “You Are A Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life ” by Jen Sincero which challenged me to step outside my comfort zone.

I listened to “You Are A Badass” and yes it did leave an impression on me. You can find this one-of-a-kind self-help book on Audible and Amazon.

Now let's dive into this review!

Synopsis

American writer, speaker, and world-traveling success coach Jen Sincero shares amusing personal stories, self-help exercises, sage advice and throws in the occasional swear word to help people change self-sabotaging belief systems and behaviors that hold them back.

Through a very unconventional approach, Sincero explores how to create a life you love and live on purpose.

Sincero approaches life's challenges with a positive mindset to connect with your inner badass and understand the secrets to create an awesome life!

It all starts with learning why you are how you are, how to find serenity, and how to take your power back.

The Inspirational

This book made me face some harsh truths about reality. I'll be honest the first hour of listening was really difficult to digest.

Then I realized how much power we have to change our reality if we start by gaining a sense of spirituality. Sincero emphasizes the ease of making life changes when you allow God to be at the forefront of everything you do.

While this author struggled in her faith for a long time she believed that there is a deeper connection between what we believe and what we attract based on those beliefs.

I am a firm believer that you are what you attract indefinitely. The opportunities that present themselves to you are based on the energy that is given to them.

Sincero claims that source energy is like this deeper sense of spirituality and all energy vibrates at a certain frequency. She then goes on to talk about the law of attraction that was developed in 1906 by William Walker Atkinson.

The law of attraction focuses on strengthening individual willpower, improving focus, and developing the magnetism that attracts good things into their lives. Simply put this frequency, or magnetism will attract like magnetism.

Say for example if you are feeling shameful, pessimistic, needy, or jealous this is sending negative vibes or a low frequency into the atmosphere. You can't expect good things to happen to you all at once when your frequency is low.

This is often what leads us to disappointment. I've definitely been there and have vowed never to set my expectations too high because of disappointment.

But the truth is having high expectations and standards is a good thing you just need to have the decisive action to back it up.

This can be challenging living in a fear-based society where we are told to "look before we leap" but it is possible to live a meaningful life we envisioned for ourselves.

As Sincero puts it we must start by having unwavering faith and gratitude.

She breaks down the self-doubt that usually stems from one of two things: fixating on the future which triggers anxiety or dwelling on the past which triggers depression.

The remedy to this is a combination of self-love, self-affirmations, getting rid of self-comparisons, knowing your worth, and develop a sense of wealth consciousness.

When you start practicing actually being present in the moment you can begin to understand your own purpose, boost self-confidence, avoid the pitfalls of self-doubt and live, sleep and breathe your vision.

Another thing I'd like to add from personal experience is that I didn't know how I was going to graduate college in the middle of a pandemic but when I took my focus off the execution and looked at what I was doing and why it became clear.

I could go on and on about the wisdom in this book but the bottom line is you don't have to be great to start living your best life you just have to start to be great!

Accept the things that you cannot change, build the strength to change the things you can, and gain the wisdom to know the difference.

Surround yourself with people who have a positive financial mindset, associate with people who are doing what you dream of doing, do your own research, break down the overwhelming tasks you have to do into manageable bite-size pieces, and take a leap of faith!
